Since living on this wonderful island of Lanzarote I have lost count of the number of "Expats" that I have spoken with who have tried to learn the Spanish language but have given up for one reason or another.

  After visiting Valencia for a long weekend I was sat enjoying a cold beer and reading the local magazine. Inside I was amazed at how many cafes and bars offered "Intercambio" to its customers at set dates every month and often thought why we don't have anything similar in Lanzarote? What is "Intercambio"? Its when two different nationalities meet to exchange their languages and its a great informal way to not only to learn the different languages but also to meet new friends from both countries. There is no pressure to learn at classroom speed or to sit exams at the end, its simply a relaxed way to meet and learn a new language whether you just want to learn the basics, practice your speaking or as some practical experience to complement any course you are studying.

Its a really fun and relaxed way to learn the language at your own pace, in your time and best of all its free except for the cost of a coffee or drink. Many Spanish people in Lanzarote want to learn English but don't have access to the "native speakers" to start Intercambio with, this is such a real shame as I am sure that many British people would also like to learn more Spanish if they could find a way to suit them.

Well here's your chance! If your looking to improve your Spanish or English then please come to our first Intercambio session to meet other like minded people for conversation.

I’ve arranged for an initial informal gathering at Café La Perla Rosa in Puerto Calero, a big thank you to Katja at Bodegas Stratvs for supplying some excellent local wines for us to sample together with Marc & Sandy who have offered their lovely Café bar for the venue.

Everyone is welcome from 17:00 onwards on Friday 9th April 2010.
