Playa Blanca has established itself as a resort that offers visitors to Lanzarote a more relaxed option away from the more established resorts of Puerto Del Carmen and Costa Teguise. With its excellent shopping, beaches, ferry port to Fuerteventura and a promenade to die for it really does have the hustle and bustle of a busy holiday resort without the feeling of being "too commercialized". ¡Estupendo! have been advising clients for years to help them to relocate to the sun to start a new life, and, for many the thought of starting a new business venture always comes up in discussions as an option worth at least looking into. For this reason, I wanted to explore the possibilities that Playa Blanca has to offer and why you should at least explore all options open to you. Locales in Playa Blanca come in all shapes and sizes and everyone offers something different depending on what type of business you are looking to set up. Whether it be a small book shop, a bike rental business or even a coffee shop/cafe bar. With some excellent locations available you need to decide is your business a "Niche" market or not? If its a Niche market then people will normally travel to pay for your services/products which means that location is not that important and you can keep your size and overheads to a minimum. If the business is reliant on "Footfall" and you need prime location then expect to a pay higher monthly rent according to the size and location.
In Playa Blanca there are an abundance of great opportunities available in various locations including Marina Rubicon, Shopping Centre Rubicon, Faro Park, Las Coloradas, Papagayo Centre and, of course, Calle Limones (the main “high street”).
So once you have found the right locale and location....what do I have to do next? Well, firstly, a good agent or lawyer will negotiate a deal on the local for you and this can include a rent free period whilst you are setting the business up. Secondly a good Asesoría will help you with an engineer who can produce a Project which along with the license application to open/trade will be sent to the town hall along with the relevant documents which your Asesoría will prepare for you.
What costs can be incurred? This is one of the most common questions we get asked and it really is a "Million Dollar Question" that is impossible to answer as every business start up is totally different. For example recently we helped Mandy and Dominic to set up a "Bike Rental Business" that was fairly straightforward because the local had a previous license to trade as a shop and because they were not adding any electrics (Kitchen etc…) the costs were minimal because the old license and project could be simply transferred into their names. However, another client, Mary has just taken over a local that was trading as a shop and has turned it into a small coffee shop. Because she has to change the activity for the local the old project and license is null and void, Mary had to produce a new project and license application which also involves an upgrade of the electrics because she has added a kitchen and three phase electrics are required by law. The locale is approximately 50m2 in total which includes a terrace area and her ingoing costs just to open the doors to trade is going to be between €40,000 to €50,000.
At ¡Estupendo! we do work closely with Asesoría’s, Lawyers and Engineers and we can offer a unique service to our customers. If you find the right locale in the right location but want to be 100% sure that you know all of your outgoing's first before signing any lease then we can help! For €250 we can instruct an Asesoría to give you a full hours consultation which includes all set up costs involved. This will also include a meeting with an Engineer at the premises to give a full report on what is going to be required under the current legislation. The Asesoría will then produce a final report with a list of all costs involved and you will then be sure that you have a sufficient budget available before committing to signing any lease. With ¡Estupendo! you will never be on your own, we will be with you 100% to introduce you to the right people and we will do our best to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
