According to Charles Mackay writing for Halifax International, Lanzarote is faring better for overseas property than the Spanish mainland. Charles referred to a recent article in the Times who noted that official statistics for the island have only recorded a drop of 4% in values. Lanzarote has avoided some of the development problems as seen on the mainland of Spain due to our strict policy of low rise buildings and planning laws initiated by César Manrique.
Spain is still considered a safe area to buy property in, it feels familiar, its close enough to the UK, part of Europe, this together with our year round climate, the low budget airlines and large number of British & Irish expats makes Lanzarote a popular destination.

Lanzarote Property Market
Very interesting article to read.
Having dealt with holiday rentals on Lanzarote for a couple of years I know how hard the government work to ensure that any new buildings in Lanzarote have to be built to a very strict criteria. This determined policy seems to have had a postive effect on the property market in Lanzarote.
